Brighton Hill Community School is experiencing rapid, unprecedented growth which has seen the school swell from 502 students in January 2017 to to over 1,280 in 2024. As a result of this, we are recruiting top quality staff who are willing to join our vision to become the beacon school of the local area and beyond.

3.30pm to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday;

Specialist Learning Support

Salary: £20,472 - £21,286 (FTE £26,158 - £27,199)

Are you interested in developing your skills and knowledge in supporting students with SENd in the classroom further? Our Specialist Learning Support role (formally Teaching Assistant) offers you the chance to specialise and train in a core area of need within SENd. Any additional training will be fully funded, and we have access to fully accredited courses that can be completed alongside your working hours.

Role Purpose

  • Carry specialist responsibility and support/mentor other staff in developing skills and knowledge.

  • To support SEND students in the classroom and faculty allocated to access learning and make expected progress.

  • Liaise with external agencies to invest and support specialist area as well as build CPD knowledge.
  • Take ownership for liaising and disseminating key CPD and strategies to support students and teaching staff.

Essential

Mental Health & Well-Being Lead

Salary: £29,125 - £32,567 (FTE £32,940 - £36,833)

Are you interested in developing your skills and knowledge in supporting students within our Wellbeing team? Our Mental Health & Wellbeing Lead offers you the chance to work with our Student Support team, to specialise and train in supporting young people’s mental health and well-being for students across the school.  Any additional training required for the role will be fully funded, and we have access to fully accredited courses that can be completed alongside your working hours. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate and committed person with good communication skills to join a friendly, supportive and ambitious department which has been developed to provided highly effective provision, support and care for our students.

Role purpose

  • Developing effective mental health and well-being processes to support students in the school 

  • To support effective safeguarding by the becoming a member of the schools DSL team, linked to a specific year group 

  • The successful candidate will be line managed by the Well-Being Centre Manager 

Delivery & Liaison

  • Lead on support by providing appropriate and effective strategies to support children with mental health concerns and other needs identified by the schools SLT, ;WBC& (Well-Being Centre) manager, HoY and/or HoF.

  • Develop and deliver strategic initiatives to support individuals and groups of students with mental health concerns; this might include workshops such as ‘managing anxiety in school’, ‘exam stress management’, ‘exercising for good mental health’. 

  • Lead on the student Well-Being Ambassador programme 

  • Engage in the school assembly programme, promoting mental health support for students 

  • Support the WBC manager in delivering staff CPD relating to mental health support  

  • Support supervision of students working in the WBC 

  • Support the creation and management of mental health support plans for identified/targeted students 

  • Keep/maintain effective logs of all students engaging in both internal and external mental health support 

  • Engage with parents to ensure an effective working partnership is in place when supporting children with mental health concerns. 

  • Support assessment of impact regarding individual mental health support plans 

  • Attend attendance strategy meetings when required 

  • Maintain awareness of local opportunities and services to support the mental health young people 

  • Liaise with other schools, external agencies and mental health professionals to offer improved in-house support 

  • Oversee the referral and monitoring process of students engaging with MHST (Mental Health Support teams – CAMHS)  

  • Liaise with the attendance officer and other DSL staff to identify EBSA related absences and support those staff/students with effective return-to-school planning 

  • Liaise with subject teachers regarding relevant details of support plans and strategies for students with mental health concerns. 

  • Be prepared to engage in opportunities for Mental Health accreditation for BHCS 

  • As part of the DSL team; attend safeguarding meetings when required 

  • As part of the DSL team; triage CPOMS referrals, liaising with the DSL where required 

  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks directed by the schools SLT and/or Well-Being Centre Manager. 

Skills needed 

  • The ability to gain the Mental Health First Aid qualification (this will be arranged by the school) 

  • A keen interest or educational background in child psychology and/or mental health 

  • Current knowledge of education research and child development. 

  • Passion for working with and supporting young people.

Examinations Invigilator

£14.44 per hour

(£12.46 per hour plus a supplement of 14% to recompense your entitlement to receive paid statutory annual leave)

We are seeking to appoint an individual with the qualities and skills necessary to undertake the role of Examinations Invigilator.

The postholder will be expected to be available for the exam periods as stated by the Examinations Officer at the beginning of each academic term.

  • Be fully conversant with the published Examination instructions and regulations.
  • Take papers and materials to the examination venue.
  • Distribute student place names and numbers on desks as per the printed plan.
  • Bring students into venue - orderly and silently where required.
  • Ensure students are seated silently and in the correct seat before opening papers.
  • Read instructions and appropriate notices and erratum/addendums where required.
  • Record absentees with the support of the invigilation team.
  • Distribute papers and materials to the student desks.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality.
  • Move around the students silently and observing them closely.
  • Ensure no inappropriate items are brought into examinations venue.
  • Report any suspected malpractice to the EO in accordance with JCQ examination regulations.
  • Respond to student requests appropriately.
  • Ensure invigilators do not help candidates in any way.
  • Ensure students are not disturbed or disturbing.
  • Collect papers in order and all other material at end of examinations.
  • Dismiss students silently and in an orderly manner.
  • Tidy the venue.
  • Remove candidate cards from the table, return to box and return to EO.
  • Place scripts in alphabetical order in the awarding bodies plastic envelope.
  • Collect blue security wallets from additional rooms and place the scripts into the AB envelope in alphabetical order.
  • Maintain the integrity of the examination at all times.

Additional

  • To know the action to be taken in the event of an emergency such as fire alarm.
  • To assist in the promotion of the good name of the school within the local community
  • Ensuring there is a good supply of exam stationery and equipment for the season and order as required
  • Undertake online Invigilator training at the start of each academic year.
  • Must be available to work in the examination periods throughout the academic year to support all examinations and assessments. (September for internal year 7 assessments, January, March-April for internal PPEs and May – June for GCSEs plus support Results day in August)
  • Any other duties requested by the Examinations Officer commensurate with the level of the post.

You will be responsible for the smooth, secure running of allocated exam sessions, working under the direction of the Examinations Officer. Duties will include timing of exams, distribution and collection of exam papers, assisting students with additional needs and ensuring Examination Board Regulations are adhered to at all times.

Good communication skills, an observant eye and attention to detail are essential. You will need to have a calm nature, and work effectively in a busy environment.
