Due to rapidly increasing student numbers, we are seeking an innovative, highly effective and inspirational full time Teacher of Food Technology.

Brighton Hill Community School has been rated as ‘Good’ with Outstanding in three of the four Ofsted categories. We are a rapidly growing coeducational 11-16 Community School with over 1250 students. Hours: 37 hours a week (term time only)   

Salary: £29,175- £30,605 (FTE £32,997 - £34,614) depending on experience 

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, skilled and personable individual to join our growing team of dedicated professionals. The departments ethos puts the needs of the students at the heart of all that we do, including working collaboratively with all staff, students and parents.

The successful candidate would join the schools SEN faculty which comprises of an extremely talented team, to support individualised and targeted intervention programmes for our students, as well as developing the strategic work of our SEN team to inspire and challenge all students, whilst ensuring an inclusive educational experience is available at all times for our students.

The main aspect of this role will be to complement the professional work of the SENDCo and HLTA’s / SEN support staff, namely through specialist intervention, developing student passports, analysing and monitoring the progress of students and working strategically with the SENDCo to support and lead colleagues.  You will also support a variety of students across all year groups with differing needs including through interventions and in class support, therefore, the ability to be flexible, pro-active and positive is important. 

Role Purpose:  

  • To complement the professional work of the SENDCo and HLTA’s / SEN support staff by taking responsibility for agreed specialist support and interventions for SEND students yr 7- 11 and additionally identified students who are not secondary ready. 

  • Identify, deliver, develop and monitor implementation of Interventions for SEND students, including IEP’s. 

  • Liaise with SENDCo to support the analysis and monitoring of SEND data to assess student needs and support the SENDCo in identify students who are in danger of / are underachieving. 

  • Liaise with SENDCo to analyse of SEND interventions.  

  • Alongside SENDCo Support EHCP applications as well as access arrangements. 

  • Oversee learning activities for students, classes and teachers to support progress of SEND students in the class setting.  

  • The role includes dealing with individual pupils and/or groups with complex and demanding learning needs. The post holder’s working hours predominantly respond to students needs and will include provision outside of school hours. 

  • Actively engage in educational research to support and develop SEND interventions and the work of the SENDCo, HLTA’s and HLTA’s / SEN support staff. 

Delivery & Liaison 

 

  • Line management of HLTA’s -including IPP’s. 

  • Support and oversee some of the IPP’s for HLTA’s / SEN support staff 

  • In liaison with the SENDCo, coordinate the HLTA’s / SEN support staff timetables  

  • Guide and provide CPD for all school staff in the area in which they hold a specialist qualifications and expertise. 

  • Routinely provide support and development for HLTA’s / SEN support staff - this includes running meetings and co-ordinating & delivering CPD.   

  • Brief and support new staff (including teachers) on the stage of development of pupils and the schools SEND processes. 

  • Work alongside the teachers in development of curriculum and interventions which link with class teaching. This can include joint planning and regularly visiting lessons to track students learning and progress. 

  • Liaise with parents with regards to the needs of SEND students, their progress and additional support needed (in consultation with SENDCo) 

  • Liaise with parents to report on/ review pupil progress following interventions. 

       and student passports.  

  • Liaise with middle leaders (including strategic groups e.g. RAG) to ascertain and create links with curriculum delivery. E.g. E/M interventions require liaison with regard to the E/M interventions.  

  • Produce termly written reports on the progress of identified students (& case studies where appropriate) Written reports required addressing complicated Student needs.  

  • Manage the school Catch -up budget with designated central funding. For students who are not secondary ready.  

  • Monitor the impact of the catch-up funding through appropriate use of data tools.  

  • Produce, share and review a comprehensive Catch-up plan which is reviewed Termly for student impact. 

  • Be proactive in sourcing additional support- where appropriate through additional revenue streams.  

  • Liaise and deliver SEND parent engagement sessions to develop strategies in the home, as well as warp around provision in school.  

Support for student progress and development 

  • Assess needs of pupils where appropriate and in discussion with SENDCo, identify specific needs and intervention. 

  • Analyse SEND data and support the SENDCo in producing reports in relation to the progress of students and possible actions to develop. 

  • Produce case studies (alongside the SENDCo) for students who have high Needs for SEND 

  • Review transition data and liaise with the SENDCo on early identification of needs. 

  • Liaise with the SENDCO, undertake some lesson drop ins to monitor the progress and provision for identified SEND students.  

  • Liaise with SENDCO, develop and co-ordinate student passports 

  • Liaise with SENDCO, Plan and develop SEND interventions alongside HLTA’s / SEN support staff to boost and develop progress areas of identified students.  

•    Provide accurate feedback and reports on SEND student attainment 

•    Support the alternative curriculum alongside SLT member  

       Responsible for curriculum  

  • Co-ordinate and deliver specialist learning activities for SEND students (select and prepare resources)  

  • Analyse impact of interventions delivered by self and HLTA’s / SEN support staff Support with Access arrangement provision and liaise with exam boards. 

  • Advise on the deployment of specialist equipment within the school  

  • Take initiative to develop multi-agency support where required for SEND students. 

  • Lead, advise and support others in area of expertise of SEND 

  • Oversee and deliver out of school learning activities to support SEND students, that consolidate class work.  

  • Support in classes with high needs students where needed. 

Skills needed

  • Passion for working with young people and SEND students with ‘high needs’. 

  • Previous experience as an HLTA is desirable with clear insight into current SEND provision and strategies. 

  • Experience of implementing the SEND code of practice. 

  • Good standard of literacy of Numeracy. 

  • Approachable and professional manner to work alongside staff and vulnerable students. 

  • Sufficient understanding of their area of expertise in order to develop self and others.  

  • Ability to write and scaffold comprehensive reports for a range of stakeholders. 

  • Current knowledge of education research and thirst for learning. 

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills  

  • Excellent presentation skills including to a range of audiences. 

  • Excellent knowledge of office 365 and a willingness to develop skills, including data and monitoring. 

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines  

  • Successful Leadership experience at a range of levels.

Examinations Invigilator

£14.44 per hour

(£12.46 per hour plus a supplement of 14% to recompense your entitlement to receive paid statutory annual leave)

We are seeking to appoint an individual with the qualities and skills necessary to undertake the role of Examinations Invigilator.

The postholder will be expected to be available for the exam periods as stated by the Examinations Officer at the beginning of each academic term.

  • Be fully conversant with the published Examination instructions and regulations.
  • Take papers and materials to the examination venue.
  • Distribute student place names and numbers on desks as per the printed plan.
  • Bring students into venue - orderly and silently where required.
  • Ensure students are seated silently and in the correct seat before opening papers.
  • Read instructions and appropriate notices and erratum/addendums where required.
  • Record absentees with the support of the invigilation team.
  • Distribute papers and materials to the student desks.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality.
  • Move around the students silently and observing them closely.
  • Ensure no inappropriate items are brought into examinations venue.
  • Report any suspected malpractice to the EO in accordance with JCQ examination regulations.
  • Respond to student requests appropriately.
  • Ensure invigilators do not help candidates in any way.
  • Ensure students are not disturbed or disturbing.
  • Collect papers in order and all other material at end of examinations.
  • Dismiss students silently and in an orderly manner.
  • Tidy the venue.
  • Remove candidate cards from the table, return to box and return to EO.
  • Place scripts in alphabetical order in the awarding bodies plastic envelope.
  • Collect blue security wallets from additional rooms and place the scripts into the AB envelope in alphabetical order.
  • Maintain the integrity of the examination at all times.

Additional

  • To know the action to be taken in the event of an emergency such as fire alarm.
  • To assist in the promotion of the good name of the school within the local community
  • Ensuring there is a good supply of exam stationery and equipment for the season and order as required
  • Undertake online Invigilator training at the start of each academic year.
  • Must be available to work in the examination periods throughout the academic year to support all examinations and assessments. (September for internal year 7 assessments, January, March-April for internal PPEs and May – June for GCSEs plus support Results day in August)
  • Any other duties requested by the Examinations Officer commensurate with the level of the post.

You will be responsible for the smooth, secure running of allocated exam sessions, working under the direction of the Examinations Officer. Duties will include timing of exams, distribution and collection of exam papers, assisting students with additional needs and ensuring Examination Board Regulations are adhered to at all times.

Good communication skills, an observant eye and attention to detail are essential. You will need to have a calm nature, and work effectively in a busy environment.
