Why Home Learning Matters

A Consistent, Flexible Approach

Home learning looks different across subjects because every curriculum area has its own unique requirements. Students may be asked to:

All home learning is set with clear expectations, realistic deadlines and a minimum completion window of one week.

Parents can monitor and support home learning through Bromcom's MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) platform, which provides visibility of tasks and deadlines. Many subjects also make use of specialist online platforms such as Century, Seneca and EverLearner to personalise learning and provide immediate feedback to students.

Supporting Year 7 Students

We recognise that moving from primary to secondary school brings new expectations. To support this transition, Year 7 students begin with a structured "Setting Up for Success" programme and receive a gradual introduction to home learning during their first half term, helping them build confidence and establish successful routines.

Bromcom MCAS & Student Portal

At Brighton Hill Community School, we use Bromcom's Student Portal and MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) to make home learning clear, accessible and easy to manage. These platforms provide a central hub where students and parents can view home learning tasks, deadlines and completion information, helping everyone stay organised and informed.

For Parents: Supporting Learning at Home

Through MCAS (MyChildAtSchool), parents and carers can see the same home learning information as their child, making it easier to support learning at home. MCAS allows parents to:

Because all students are given at least one week to complete home learning tasks, the Student Portal helps them plan their time effectively and avoid last-minute pressure.

Century Tech

At our school, we are committed to ensuring every student receives the support and challenge they need to thrive. To further enhance learning both in school and at home, we use Century Tech, an innovative online learning platform designed to personalise learning for each child.

Century Tech uses artificial intelligence to adapt to your child’s strengths, gaps and pace of learning. As students complete tasks, the platform builds a detailed picture of their understanding and automatically recommends the next best activities to support progress.
