Brighton Hill Community School is experiencing rapid, unprecedented growth which has seen the school swell from 502 students in January 2017 to to over 1,280 in 2024. Assistant Examination Officer

SFET Point: 13 to 16
Salary: £15,156 - £16,666 actual (£24,735 - £27,199 FTE)
Hours per week: 25, term time +1
Working Day: Monday – Friday (flexible working will be considered to support examinations)

The Role
To provide key administration support services to the `Examinations Officer and other BHCS stakeholders, helping deliver highly effective internal and external examinations and assessments. Through a proactive, enthusiastic and customer focused approach you will play a key role in developing the effectiveness of our incredible school and contribute to delivering the BHCS mission of ‘making success inevitable’.

Reporting Line
The post will report to the Examinations Officer.

Main Duties

  • To assist in the day-to-day administration support of a highly effective examination and assessment department.
  • To support the running of the examinations during the examination periods
  • To deputise in the absence of the Examinations Officer.
  • To have a flexible approach during the GCSE examination series May – July.

Key Tasks

  • Maintain internal & external examination & assessment spreadsheets including planning & appropriate entry content.
  • Monitor examination board entry deadlines across a range of qualifications.
  • Coordinate and communicate with both internal & external key stakeholders on student assessment & examination entries.
  • Keep BHCS examination policies and procedures updated according to the JCQ regulations.
  • Support coordination and maintenance of invigilation training and training records.
  • Manage administration across all relevant examination & assessments websites.
  • Liaise with BHCS internal stakeholders to effectively plan & support examination and assessment logistics.
  • Maintain effective examination packs for invigilators, teaching staff & students.
  • Support effective coverage of invigilators through well maintained and communicated invigilator timetables.
  • Maintain accurate seating plan records for examination & assessment, including oversight of effectively set up examination rooms supported by both the BHCS site team & IT team.
  • Liaise on and make relevant room bookings correlated to internal & external examination & assessment series’ and according to student access arrangement needs.
  • Support collation of staff & student feedback that leads to continued improvement.
  • Report on candidate absence and where relevant plan candidate catchups.
  • Support all aspects of effective examination and assessment administration.

General Responsibilities

  • Work co-operatively with other support and teaching staff.
  • Comply with BHCS and SFET policies.
  • Carry out any such duties as may be reasonably required by BHCS and SFET.
  • Willing to undertake any training connected with the post.
  • To comply with the school’s procedures concerning safeguarding and successfully completing all mandatory safeguarding training.

Qualification & Training
  • Demonstrable record of successful in-service staff development and training.
  • Level 4 or above GCSE English and Maths.
  • Completion of all or some of ‘The Examination Office’ (or equivalent) suite of training modules.
Experience
  • Office and administration experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel & Teams.
  • Work within schools or with young people in an administration role.
  • Knowledge of examination awarding organisations and JCQ, their regulations and procedures.

Teacher of Geography (and Humanities)

We are seeking an innovative, highly effective and inspirational full-time Teacher of Geography and Humanities starting as soon as possible or from January 2026.

Brighton Hill Community School has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ in 3 of the 4 areas inspected by Ofsted and ‘Good’ overall. We continue our rapid progress journey of ‘making success inevitable’ as a coeducational 11-16 Community School with over 1,200 students. You will teach Geography across the age and attainment range as well as being able to teach some lessons of History and Religious Studies if required, most likely at Key Stage 3, and make a significant positive contribution to the vision of the school.

We are looking for a highly organised and confident individual to join our friendly team as Senior Administrator and Receptionist. This role is central to the smooth running of our school’s front office, with a key focus on coordinating daily staff cover.

You will be the first point of contact for parents, pupils, and visitors, while also taking responsibility for managing the school’s cover arrangements, ensuring that all classes are appropriately staffed and disruptions to learning are minimised.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading the coordination of school cover, including managing staff absences and liaising with supply agencies.
  • Maintaining accurate records related to teacher cover.
  • Handling reception duties such as telephone, postal, and visitor enquiries.
  • Supporting hospitality and general administrative functions.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Confidence in managing cover logistics and responding quickly to changing staffing needs.

Examinations Invigilator

£14.44 per hour

(£12.46 per hour plus a supplement of 14% to recompense your entitlement to receive paid statutory annual leave)

We are seeking to appoint an individual with the qualities and skills necessary to undertake the role of Examinations Invigilator.

The postholder will be expected to be available for the exam periods as stated by the Examinations Officer at the beginning of each academic term.

  • Be fully conversant with the published Examination instructions and regulations.
  • Take papers and materials to the examination venue.
  • Distribute student place names and numbers on desks as per the printed plan.
  • Bring students into venue - orderly and silently where required.
  • Ensure students are seated silently and in the correct seat before opening papers.
  • Read instructions and appropriate notices and erratum/addendums where required.
  • Record absentees with the support of the invigilation team.
  • Distribute papers and materials to the student desks.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality.
  • Move around the students silently and observing them closely.
  • Ensure no inappropriate items are brought into examinations venue.
  • Report any suspected malpractice to the EO in accordance with JCQ examination regulations.
  • Respond to student requests appropriately.
  • Ensure invigilators do not help candidates in any way.
  • Ensure students are not disturbed or disturbing.
  • Collect papers in order and all other material at end of examinations.
  • Dismiss students silently and in an orderly manner.
  • Tidy the venue.
  • Remove candidate cards from the table, return to box and return to EO.
  • Place scripts in alphabetical order in the awarding bodies plastic envelope.
  • Collect blue security wallets from additional rooms and place the scripts into the AB envelope in alphabetical order.
  • Maintain the integrity of the examination at all times.

Additional

  • To know the action to be taken in the event of an emergency such as fire alarm.
  • To assist in the promotion of the good name of the school within the local community
  • Ensuring there is a good supply of exam stationery and equipment for the season and order as required
  • Undertake online Invigilator training at the start of each academic year.
  • Must be available to work in the examination periods throughout the academic year to support all examinations and assessments. (September for internal year 7 assessments, January, March-April for internal PPEs and May – June for GCSEs plus support Results day in August)
  • Any other duties requested by the Examinations Officer commensurate with the level of the post.

You will be responsible for the smooth, secure running of allocated exam sessions, working under the direction of the Examinations Officer. Duties will include timing of exams, distribution and collection of exam papers, assisting students with additional needs and ensuring Examination Board Regulations are adhered to at all times.

Good communication skills, an observant eye and attention to detail are essential. You will need to have a calm nature, and work effectively in a busy environment.
