Pioneer
Kindness always wins!
Pioneer is a House with phenomenal diversity, with creatives, academics, sporting heroes, debaters, mathematicians, performers, problem solvers and general kind-hearted heroes throughout our team. Whatever challenge or task you put in front of Pioneer house, they will propel through it to achieve greatness.
Our four Houses are all named after space missions, and I take the word ‘Pioneer’ literally when encouraging our students. A pioneer is someone who ventures out – often the first to explore or the first to try a new method. Therefore, our students should be ambitious, aspiring and avid. That ‘new’ thing to try may be going to a new extracurricular club; a new House Event; trying a new sport or skill. In a House where skills pop up in abundance from our magnificent team, there is always scope to ask a friend or teacher for support in trying something novel.
We run weekly House Events on a Friday for all year groups, across all subjects and beyond. Recently, some of our student led groups such as our Eco Team and Political ambassadors have run their very own House Events, allowing for students to develop their leadership skills and responsibilities and build relationships with other students.
Our main rival within the House Cup is Voyager, who we have been battling against for 1st place for a number of years. We are the closest we’ve ever been to them, though, let’s see what the next cohort of Pioneers can bring to help deliver the win!

Pioneer Update: May 2026
This term Pioneer have been a formidable force and have been the champions of the House Cup for a good few weeks – This is down to the colossal efforts of the whole team and the daily demonstrations of our corner stones. Keep up the amazing work, Pioneer, especially as Voyager are on and off in taking the 1st position over us.
Pioneer have had so much fun at House Events in recent weeks, and we’ve maintained our lead in gaining the most points from the standings from House Events, notably due to the expert teamwork in our year groups.
Additionally, looking at all of our tutor groups, Pioneer are in either the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place spots for highest HCPs in each year group, storming ahead of the other 6/7 tutor groups in each year group.
Particularly well done to the following:
1st place positions – 11Pr1, 10Pr1 and 8Pr2.
2nd place positions – 9Pr2 and 9Pr1.
3rd place positions – 7Pr2.
Pioneer Newsletter: March 2026

A very celebratory newsletter today as Pioneer have absolutely stormed ahead in the House Cup and have taken first place! The last few weeks have seen Voyagers and Pioneers on the edge of their seats with daily checking to see which House is reigning supreme each day. We have never seen this much change as for the last few years especially, Voyager have been consistent reigning champions - not anymore!
A very well deserved huge well done to every member of the green team – it is because of the consistent collaboration, commitment, kindness and courage that is demonstrated on the daily that leads to this success!
Pioneer are also continuing in their leads from last year, demonstrating the highest points accrued from House Events and building up the most points there! Consistency is the key and has put us at a tremendous lead here!
Huge shoutout to Olek H (Y7), Abigail M (Y8), Charlie H (Y9), Lewis G (Y10) and Lisa E (Y11) for leading the way with their House Cup Points. These students alone make up 727 points for the House which is truly phenomenal.
Coming up after the Easter holidays we have the following House Events scheduled:
A ‘House of Games’ Humanities event, a STEM event with a collaboration between our Tech and Science departments, a Maths escape room, gaming, chess, dance, psychology and a House Event run by our very own Student Council as they lead their ‘Green Army’ event! House Captains will inform all tutees of the events in upcoming weeks or please speak to your Head of House for details.
Finally, an update about what our Y7 House Lunch assembly topics have covered in recent weeks. These interactive assemblies are to support our youngest cohort with their transition into secondary school, provide them opportunities to discuss with fellow peers, their tutors and Head of House as well as supporting them in becoming the greatest individuals they can be.
- Charity work and local charities
- The importance of being punctual
- Uniform and the rationale
- Everyone has a different normal
- Bullying – Being a bystander vs an upstander
Pioneer Newsletter: January 2026
Pioneer have been a formidable force recently at House events, in lessons and around school. They are storming closer and closer to the lead of the House Cup!
House Events have seen several Pioneer wins at French and Humanities in recent weeks. Keep up that fantastic work! Last year we accrued the most points from House Events…let’s try to mirror that consistency and success again.
At the current standings of the House cup, we are a mere 415 points away from the top spot. Huge shoutout to Sarah H, Abigail M, Maks K and Charlie H, Jeremiah M and Ewan D who have the most points in their respective year groups! Well done to all.
Y7 have been enjoying our fortnightly ‘House Lunch assemblies’. So far this year we have addressed the following topics to support their transition into life at secondary school:
- Introduction to the House
- Maintaining high expectations
- Our environment and its importance
- Social interactions and accountability
- The importance of language
- Navigating the school
- Christmas values
- Charity work
It is a continuous joy to get to know our Y7s!
In addition to our most recent House Lunch with Y7, our students and tutors were tasked with shortlisting some charities they wish to support over the coming years. More to come on this topic once all of Pioneer has voted!
Pioneer Newsletter: Autumn term 2025
I cannot believe we are concluding our Autumn term already; this year is flying by and I think part of that is the level of activity we have going on at school currently. Each week is filled with extra-curricular opportunities and a wide array of House Events.
Pioneer are switching between 2nd and 3rd place currently in the House Cup and we are continuing our reign of consistency with House Event wins.
So far we have had one assembly together where we celebrated different students for their exceptional work in different subjects, crediting them for demonstrating our corner stones in their lessons. Additionally, we awarded our first coveted Chilly bottle prize (in Brighton Hill navy and yellow of course) and this went to Harrison H in Y10 for his unwavering commitment and exceptional behaviour in lessons throughout his time at Brighton Hill so far.
To our other Pioneer legends, well done to all! Prize winners took part in a ‘spin the wheel’ to win sweets, stationery or even Amazon vouchers!
Well done to the following:
- Leighton B in Y9 for showing Kindness in Maths!
- Lily P in Y10 for showing Courage in Science!
- Liam DP in Y9 for showing Courage in PE!
- Kai RA in Y9 for showing Courage in Languages!
- Lacey L in Y7 for showing Kindness in Languages!
- Lisa E in Y11 for showing Commitment in Humanities!
- Lexie W in Y11 for showing Commitment in EPA!
- Fin G for showing Courage in Humanities!
Keep up the fantastic work, Pioneer, and have a lovely well deserved 2 week break!
Pioneer Newsletter: October 2025
Hello! Welcome to a new academic year and the start of a new term.
Pioneer have kicked off positively and within just 25 days have accumulated 1463 positive House Cup Points!
This year we’ve also added additional targets for our students as House Cup Points can now be awarded in line with our cornerstones in a tiered system. Students can be awarded either 1, 3 or 5 House Cup Points for demonstrating kindness, for being collaborative, for showing courage and for showcasing commitment. For those students who go above and beyond, we see you and we are so grateful for your outstanding contributions to the school and wider community.
For an insight into where our students are racking up these points, I can share with you that Pioneers have so far received…
- 161 House Cup Points in English
- 83 House Cup Points in Maths
- 75 House Cup Points in Geography
- 47 and 44 House Cup Points in Technology and Spanish
- 160 points out and about around school
And so much more!
To my wonderful cohort, continue your brilliance and alacrity; I truly cannot wait to see what’s in store for us all this year and I am forever proud of you all.
I would also like to formally introduce Pioneer’s House Captain, Megan H, alongside our brilliant Deputy House Captain, Lisa E. Both of our House Captains have been a formidable force since the year began, visiting tutor groups routinely, attending House Lunches with our Y7s, supporting the running of House Events every Friday and representing our House and school excellently.
Already, our House Captains have been recognised by our prospective parents / carers from Open Evening, as we were provided with the wonderful feedback about our House Captain greeting visitors at reception.
“The pupil who was the house captain for the green house was a great representation of the school before we even entered.”

Pioneer Newsletter: March 2025
So far this year Pioneer have been an absolute monumental force, challenging the other Houses at every turn. Pioneer have shown themselves to be determined, resilient, brave and incredibly consistent so far this year, retaining 2nd place in the House Cup.
Our Y7s have been enjoying our ‘House lunches’; with weekly assemblies and talks from September to Christmas, to ensure our new members of the #yellowarmy settled into our community, built relationships and transitioned into their new school. Every session is a delight to see over 60 smiling faces listen closely and share knowledge and experiences.
Our Y8s are leading the way currently as they dominate our House Cup Point table, with Mr Vyas’ tutor 8PR1 racking up a total of 1449 points so far this academic year, over 2/3 of our current total! Well done Y8, your commitment in lessons and involvement in House Events is unwavering!
Y9 started their first year in new GCSE subjects and for lots of student’s they’ve thrown themselves into the likes of Psychology, Fine Art, Latin, DT, Health and Social Care, Travel and Tourism as well as their core subjects. Our Y9s have shown incredible diligence this year; with the added motivation of our Calshot Trip in May…keep it up Y9!
Many of our Y10s have been involved with DofE, learning new skills and documenting their progress. Phenomenal commitment on a Friday with these budding students hoping to get their Duke of Edinburgh award – Hope it goes well Y10!
And finally, our Y11s have shown unprecedented levels of dedication as they prepare for their GCSEs. We’ve never seen numbers like it in our Zone 11 sessions with most of the year group turning up for extra revision. Starting to get very used to that ‘4pm finish’, keep it up Y11, that hard work will pay off!

Hello Proud Pioneers!
What a fantastic term we’ve had so far!
I am thrilled to say that this term has been one of our most prosperous, successful and positive. We have had record attendance at house events and because of our consistency, we are currently leading in 1st place for House Cup Points earned at House Events!
Across the whole House competition, however, we are currently placing 2nd – Not too far away from Voyager on the top spot…we will get there!
To end our term, we had our end of term rewards assembly and students were able to read positive comments about themselves from their teachers and other school staff; highlighting their determination, kindness, dedication and generosity! The Head of House team made a series of goodie bags for selected winners which included a little bit of everything – some things you may need, some things you may want and some things that are a little bit fun!
Next term is going to be a busy one and it starts off with our PPE exams – Good luck to all our Y11s!
Wishing everyone a lovely holiday; a Merry Christmas if you celebrate it and a Happy New Year.

Here we go for another wonderful year of being in Horizon! We ended up narrowly bottom of the standings in the House Cup table last year, but the enthusiasm I have seen from students already has given me no doubt that we won't be there again come July. It has been amazing to see the new Year 7 students proudly wearing their House colours and to hear their excitement at being in Horizon and I'm sure that excitement is going to carry us to a win - I've already started drafting my victory speech.
We have so many House events coming up over the next month, kicking off with Year 11 Football in the first week. I've had a glance at the squad and I'm looking forward to seeing some glorious football out on the pitch (hopefully it doesn't rain!) We then have events for every single year group over the next few weeks and I know that we're going to get off to such a strong start that Horizon will be top of the leader board by the end of the month!

What a great start to Term 3!: May 2022
The Sun is shining and our wonderful Pioneer's are out supporting their team! A huge well done to our Year 8 Pioneer's for enjoying the glorious summer Sun with a fierce game of rounders! As a team let's bring it home with a massive final push so we can relive the glory of last year! Continue to rack up those house points in lesson and around school by demonstrating our 4 cornerstones: kindness, collaboration, courage, and commitment as we know
kindness always wins!
07-04-2022 : Another term gone!: April 2022
Another term gone! Congratulations to all of our wonderful Pioneers for making it through the cold months of January as we welcome the brighter months of Spring! Our students have done a brilliant job of representing our school values should feel very proud. Indeed they have shown their commitment every Friday, building a team to tackle the House competitions from Drama to Badminton to Science, our Pioneers have shown up and done incredibly well! Let's bring the same attitude next term and have a brilliant end to the year!
Pioneer
Welcome to Pioneer House!
Greta Thunberg is our house ambassador, as she is a perfect representation of Brighton Hill’s four cornerstones. She has shown great courage, speaking up about global concerns to our world leaders even when people have said that it is not her place. She has shown 100% commitment to her cause, going on marches in the cold and wet. On a daily basis she collaborates with world leaders, politicians, scientists, and even musicians, doing everything she can to spread her message. And with every action and every work Greta shows kindness. Kindness to the future, kindness to the planet, and kindness to people she disagrees with.
What better person to have as a role model for our Pioneers to look up to throughout their years at Brighton Hill! As Pioneers come together for house challenges and support each other in class we see their Pioneer spirit use these cornerstones to make success inevitable in every challenge they undertake, as you know… kindness always wins!
