Our Trips and Visits: working with our community

Across the first years of our Eco-Council, we have already had the opportunity to attend a number of trips and visits in the local area, both to learn from others and to spread the word about the good work we've been doing behind the scenes.
Below is some brief information about some of the main ones:
Climate Conference
Earlier this year, the Eco-Council at Brighton Hill were lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to a climate conference at QMC, with a number of different local schools from across Basingstoke.
During this time, we got to learn about many topics, all focused on ecological events and facts. In the first session, we participated in a soil sample experiment to see how we affect everything we encounter (and how worms are so valuable to us!).
Another of the lectures was about endangered animal species and how many were left of each, especially after the increased demand for furs and poaching. This helped us see the bigger picture and appreciate the world around us and how lucky we are to be in a world full of fantastic plants and animals!
Thanks to this, we are now more aware of how we endanger the world we touch.

Sustainable Skies World Summit 2025
At the end of the 2024-25 academic year, members of the Green Team were able to take part in a huge event, the Sustainable Skies World Summit (2025), held at Farnborough International Exhibition Centre. This event "has established itself as the global gathering for the industry’s change-makers – from airlines, OEMs and airports, to regulators, investors, academics and innovators."
As a part of this, they also host a careers fair for Year 8-10 students, who have an opportunity to listen to talks about developments in sustainable air travel from people within the industry, hear about the career opportunities and talk to employers. The Summit acts as a catalyst for addressing the aerospace industry’s sustainability and forming workable solutions towards zero emissions, and we were lucky enough to be a part!
