Year 11 TA1 Progress Tracker

Dear Year 11 Parents/Carer,

Please find attached your child’s first Progress Tracker for their final academic year with us at Brighton Hill Community School.  The Progress Tracker is how we keep you updated on both your child’s academic progress and their attitude to learning. Your child’s subject teachers will also have a conversation with your child, so they are clear on the information provided and how to progress in each subject.

Additionally, I’d like to suggest that every student should have a revision timetable that details when and what subject they will be revising on a given day, as this will increase productivity and focus. Every time a student, opens a book, answers a question, uses an app they will be a little bit closer to achieving their targets. If you would like to support your child with revision please see the presentation from the information evening that can be found here. If you have any questions regarding revision or revision techniques, please contact your child’s tutor.

Academic Progress

Academic progress is measured from your child’s ‘Year 7 baseline fine grade’; if you wish to understand the finer details on how this baseline is determined and all the finer details of the BHCS progress model you can refer to the ‘Progress Model: Parent and Student Guide’ available on our School website here or contact your childs tutor.

What the Progress Tracker tells you

Column 1: Subject – This shows range of subjects your child is currently studying.

“What level of GCSE/Qualification should my child achieve?”

Column 2: End of year 11 projected performance band – This is an indicator of what GCSE grade your child could achieve in each subject at the end of Year 11, if their progress meets the National average progress for children with similar Year 7 start points who went on to study each subject in KS4 (Years 9 – 11). Note the end of year 11 projected performance band table to see projected grade ranges, where 9 is the highest grade and 1 is the lowest.

“Is my child making progress this academic year?”

Column 3: In year fine grade progress to date – This shows how many fine grades of progress your child has made in the current academic year when comparing to the last Teacher Assessment data collection point of the previous year. Or that point on the subject progress matrix if your child had not previously been studying the subject.

“What grade is my child currently achieving?”

Column 4: Current working at grade – This shows the current GCSE level your child is considered to be working at, it is presented as a fine grade. Please see the GCSE grades table on the reverse of the tracker to understand the A, B & C fine grading definition.

“Is my child still on track to achieve their end of year 11 projected performance band?”

Column 5: Subject progress since joining BHCS – This gives you and your child an indication of whether they are on target to meet their ‘End of year 11 projected performance band’. Please see the subject progress since joining BHCS descriptions table on the reverse of the tracker for more detail.

Attitude to Learning

“Is my child still displaying the right attitude to learning?”

Column 6: Attitude to Learning – This shows your child’s level of engagement in their learning combined with their behaviour in the classroom. Note the Attitude to Learning Definition table for full descriptions.

The Progress Tracker also identifies your child’s attendance to date.

Please do take time to discuss these outcomes with your child.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s Progress Tracker, please in the first instance, contact their Tutor who will be happy to help.
